| Cognitive Training Each person who is admitted to Community Transitions will be working toward improving his or her cognitive abilities. Our Cognitive Therapist utilizes a wide variety of cognitive exercises to restore and improve cognitive functioning as well as utilizing compensatory strategies. Individual Cognitive Therapy programs are tailored to each person’s needs. Currently we have well over 200 different cognitive therapy tools designed to work on different areas of the brain. We also provide RhythmiCog™, a cutting-edge metronome-based therapy designed to improve attention and concentration skills, motor skills, as well as executive functioning. This individual therapy has shown significant promise in improving overall cognitive functioning. In 2008 we added an interactive driving simulator to assist in helping people move toward more independence. The driving simulator contains various driver training programs designed to safely assess new drivers or drivers who are relearning the skill. Once a person progresses through these levels we then will refer the person to Regional Rehabilitation Institute for further behind-the-wheel assessment. At Community Transitions we know that cognitive therapy is effective for restoring cognitive function only when provided in a structured environment. We do this by utilizing the results from a neuropsychological evaluation and the results of our initial assessment of the person. We then carefully select cognitive exercises that focus on each person's individual deficits (we refer to them as "target areas"). With nearly 250 different cognitive therapy tools at our disposal we can effectively work each target area of the brain for maximum cognitive benefit, and ultimately maximum cognitive improvement. | Community Transitions Cognitive Training Room.
