Central Park Jogger to Speak on Hope and Recovery (article 05/08/10) Who: The conference was geared toward professionals, family members and survivors of all different types of brain injury. There were both a professional track and a family/survivor track. The conference has attracted people from across the country. Presenters: Trisha Meili is better known as the Central Park Jogger. Her story of trauma and survival captivated the world after being assaulted while jogging in Central Park in New York City. For many years Trisha remained anonymous until the release of her acclaimed book, I Am the Central Park Jogger. She will be spoke about Hope and Possibility. Anne Moessner, RN, MSN, CRRN is an Assistant Professor in the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing and Project Coordinator for the TBI Model Systems (TBIMS). She participates in the state TBI advisory councils in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin and is heavily involved in other education and community outreach initiatives. She is the TBI Clinical Nurse Specialist at Mayo Clinic and serves both children and adults with TBI. Ms. Moessner is the on-site coordinator for all TBIMS studies and manages the day to day implementation of TBIMS activities including recruitment of research subjects. She also participates in the publication and dissemination of research findings, publishes The Messenger newsletter, and assists with management of the Mayo TBIMS web site. Anne has 23 years of brain rehabilitation experience. Michael P. Mozzoni, Ph.D./BCBA/CBIST is the Director of Behavioral Services & Training for Lakeview Neuro-Rehabilitation Center in Effingham NH. He is a board certified behavior analyst and certified brain injury specialist clinical trainer who has worked with persons with brain injuries since 1985. He holds a Ph.D. in applied behavior analysis from Florida State University & a M.A. in experimental psychology from Harvard University. He serves as treasurer for both the ACRM (American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine) Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group & AACBIS (American Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists). Mike is a member of the National Advisory Board for the Sarah Jane Brain Project & serves as a member of the editorial board of Behavioral Interventions. He has numerous publications and presentations in the areas of: Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Employee Turnover, Behavior Management and Skill Acquisition. Stephen Manlove, MD is a psychiatrist in Rapid City, SD and is certified by the American Board of Psychology and Neurology. Dr. Manlove will be presented on Brain Injury and Psychotropic Medications. Matthew Simmons, MD is a neurologist at Black Hills Neurology in Rapid City, SD. He will be presented on Neuroplasticity. Christopher Elia, Ph.D. is the Founding Director and Staff Psychologist for Specialized Substance Use/Post Traumatic Stress Outpatient Program at the Fort Meade Veteran's Administration Medical Center. He presented on Brain Injury and PTSD. James Gardiner, Ph.D., ABPN is a Neuropsychologist at Community Transitions in Rapid City and had worked for over 20 years as the primary neuropsychologist at the Fort Meade Veteran's Administration Hospital. Dr. Gardiner is a talented musician as well and he has developed musical treatments for neurological injuries, and for the past few years has researched the effects of music on improving the brain. He has been working with people with brain injury for over 20 years. He will be presented on Let Yourself Relax. Ron Sasso, MS, NCC, LPC is the Director of Community Transitions, one of the country's oldest community re-entry programs for people with brain injury. Ron has been working with people with brain injury for over ten years with the goal of making each person independent. He will be presented on Brain Injury Through the Lifespan and Brain Injury: Independent Living Considerations. Annette Pearson, MS, LADC, CBIS has 11 years experience working with people with cognitive disabilities and addiction. She has worked at Vinland in Minneapolis, MN and has head a variety of position and is currently the Outpatient Services Manager. She serves on the Minnesota chapter of the TBI advisory board and is an active memeber of the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota. She will be presented on Addressing the Challenges: Substance Abuse and Brain Injury. Justine Ashokar, MS, NCC, LPC is a licensed professional counselor at Community Transitions in Rapid City, South Dakota. She has worked with people with brain injury dealing with emotional adjustment to living with a brain injury. She has done poster presentations on Awareness and Depression at Mayo Clinic and at the 8th World Congress on Brain Injury. |
